LRV (Low Resolution Video) files are automatically generated by GoPro cameras and some Insta360 models, and serve as compressed preview videos alongside the actual high-resolution footage. Although technically these are MPEG-4 files with H.264-encoded video, most media players and video editing programmes do not recognise the .LRV file extension and refuse to play them. As LRV files are recorded at a resolution of just 240p at approximately 30 fps and are intended solely for internal preview within the camera app, the original high-resolution MP4 files should be used for further processing wherever possible. LRF files from DJI cameras serve the same purpose and can also be converted to MP4. However, to share files as quickly as possible whilst keeping them as small as possible, the LRV files (renamed or converted to MP4) can also be shared.
In principle, renaming .lrv to .mp4 should result in a playable file. In practice, however, some devices and programmes cannot handle the renamed files. When converted on File-Converter-Online.com, the MP4 container is rewritten, resulting in a highly compatible MP4 file.
